Coriandrum sativum L. is one of the useful essential oil bearing spice having medicinal properties.
All parts of plant are used; however, its fresh leaves and dried seeds are most frequently used. The leaves and seeds of the plant are widely used in food preparation as spice and additionally it is also used as folk medicine. The plant is used in different ways, viz., in foods for flavoring preservatives and in pharmaceutical products for therapeutic action as well as in perfumes for fragrance. Seeds are added to dishes as an aromatic spice, which act as digestive agent accelerating the digestion process
It contains essential oil up to 1% constituted mainly linalool and other monoterpenoids.
