Aipan is the folk art of Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. If you ever visit a Kumaoni household, you would find a beautiful Aipan art adorning the entrance.

Traditionally, the women of the house would use geru for the red and rice flour for white colour for making an Aipan on occasions like Diwali. These days, paints are preferred over geru and rice flour paste as they are long-lasting and easy to use.

These Aipan earrings are another modern adaptation of Aipan art. They have been designed and handcrafted by the rural women of Nainital district who work with Hilans.
